Lockdown function and triggering
The lockdown can be triggered in various ways:
- Centrally via the SALTO SPACE software by school administrators or security managers.
- Directly at the door by authorized persons using an identification medium (e.g., teacher card).
- Manually via an emergency button in the classroom if no teacher is present.
Automatic locking is only possible for doors that are connected online. Offline doors are not affected. In this case, the lockdown is activated by holding the authorized card up to the interior reader.
Practical Amok Lockdown Mode
In practice, we also recommend that schools use the amok lockdown mode. In an emergency, a student or teacher can activate the amok button by breaking a small pane of glass. All doors that are currently closed but not locked are then automatically locked. The signal is transmitted via software to all doors connected to the network, so that the lockdown is effective throughout the entire defined area within seconds.
Alternatively or additionally, the lockdown can be triggered via an emergency button on the teacher's desk. A lockable version has proven particularly effective, which is opened at the start of class and secured again when leaving the room. Pressing this button triggers the same system-wide lockdown.
Flexible configuration and integration
The central management platform SALTO SPACE can be used to define lockdown areas—for example, for individual wings of a building, floors, or entire school buildings. Within these areas, all access points can be locked or unlocked simultaneously.
