Kindergartens & Nurseries – Safety for the Little Ones

Kindergartens and nurseries are sensitive institutions: they care for the youngest members of our society and therefore face very special challenges. Safety, clear structures, and simple processes are crucial here. Parents expect their children to be cared for in a protected environment, while educators and staff need to be relieved of some of their everyday burdens. Our solutions combine reliable technology with ease of use – specially adapted to the requirements of kindergartens and nurseries.

Access control and/or mechanical locking system

Electronic access control makes it possible to precisely regulate who has access to which areas and when. For example, parents can only access the group rooms during drop-off and pick-up times, while educators and staff have extended rights. Temporary access – for cleaning staff or external service providers, for example – can also be set up easily.

Mechanical locking systems remain a proven solution for less sensitive areas. They offer a robust and cost-effective way to secure storage rooms, kitchens, or warehouses, for example.

Video surveillance – security at entrances and outdoor areas

Discreet video surveillance provides an additional sense of security without disrupting the children's daily routine. Cameras at entrances and outdoor areas prevent unauthorized access and reliably document any unusual activity. Modern systems can be configured to comply with data protection regulations and only record scenes that are relevant to security.

Surveillance of outdoor areas is particularly valuable—playgrounds and gardens are often targets of vandalism or unauthorized use outside of opening hours. Visible cameras deter potential perpetrators, and in serious cases, incidents can be traced seamlessly.

Alarm systems – protection outside of care hours

Kindergartens are usually unoccupied in the afternoons, evenings, and on weekends. It is precisely during these times that the risk of burglary or vandalism increases. An alarm system provides reliable protection here. Door contacts, motion detectors, and glass break sensors ensure that unauthorized access is detected immediately.

In addition, smoke and gas detectors can be integrated into the system to protect children, staff, and the building from fire and explosion hazards. Thanks to modern control systems, alarms are triggered by sirens, push notifications, or optionally via an external control center.

Signs for timetables and orientation

Signage is an underestimated component of the safety concept. It not only helps parents and visitors find their way around, but also contributes to clear everyday routines. Timetables, direction signs, and safety instructions can be displayed clearly and comprehensively with durable, professionally designed signs.

Digital versions—such as information boards in the entrance area—make it possible to quickly communicate short-term changes (e.g., group changes or altered drop-off times).

Amok protection – central locking in an emergency

Even though it is difficult to imagine, rampage scenarios are an issue that is increasingly being addressed in kindergartens. Modern access systems from Salto enable all group rooms to be locked immediately in an emergency, while escape and rescue routes remain open. This allows children and staff to be brought to safety without hindering evacuation.

Panic lock conversions & escape route security

Escape and rescue routes must be guaranteed at all times – especially in facilities for children. At the same time, it must not be possible for children to leave the building unsupervised or for strangers to enter unnoticed.

Panic locks and escape route security devices are the solution to this conflict: they enable rapid evacuation in an emergency, but at the same time offer protection against unauthorized access.

Our conclusion – safety in childcare

Kindergartens and nurseries bear a particularly great responsibility. Modern access control systems, discreet video surveillance, reliable alarm systems, clear signage, and security measures for rampage and escape routes create an environment in which children feel protected and employees are relieved of stress.

Parents gain confidence, and the facilities can concentrate on what really matters: supporting and caring for the children.
